Jewish life in Morocco stretches back some 2,000 years long before the arrival of Islam. After 1492, tens of thousands of Sephardic exiles from Spain and Portugal found refuge here, and by the mid-20th century Morocco was home to roughly a quarter of a million Jews: the largest Jewish community in the Muslim world.
That story is still written into the country. Nearly every city has its mellah the historic Jewish quarter its synagogues, its cemetery with whitewashed tombs. During the Second World War, Sultan Mohammed V famously refused to hand over his Jewish subjects to the Vichy authorities. Today, Morocco remains one of the few Arab countries with a living Jewish community, restored synagogues, and a Jewish museum in Casablanca the only one of its kind in the Arab world.
Our private Jewish Morocco tours explore this heritage with respect and depth: the great synagogues, the mellahs, the tombs of revered tzaddikim, and for many of our travelers the villages where their own families once lived.

The mellah and Slat al-Azama Synagogue of Marrakech, the Jewish cemetery, and the saints' tombs and village mellahs of the Atlas and Ourika Valley.

The Museum of Moroccan Judaism in Casablanca, Rabat, the Ibn Danan Synagogue and mellah of Fes, Sefrou, Meknes and Marrakech. The complete story, city by city.

The grand heritage route plus Essaouira's Bayt Dakira and Rabbi Haim Pinto Synagogue, the southern kasbah mellahs and a night under the Sahara stars.
The synagogue founded by Spanish exiles after 1492, at the heart of the Marrakech mellah — still active, with a moving museum of community life.
A 17th-century jewel in the Fes mellah, beautifully restored — steps from the world's first Jewish quarter, established in 1438.
In Casablanca the only Jewish museum in the Arab world, tracing 2,000 years of history through Torah scrolls, costumes and photographs.
The "House of Memory" in old Mogador, where Jews once made up nearly half the city with the Rabbi Haim Pinto Synagogue nearby.
The whitewashed Jewish cemeteries of Fes, Marrakech and Essaouira among the most moving and best-preserved in the diaspora.
Pilgrimage sites of revered sages across the Atlas and the south destinations of the hiloula pilgrimages that still draw thousands.
The village mellahs of the Draa and Todra valleys and the Ouarzazate region, where Jewish and Berber life were intertwined for centuries.
Where possible, meet members of today's community a Shabbat service in Casablanca or Marrakech, a kosher family table, living continuity.

We arrange kosher meals where available kosher restaurants and community dining in Casablanca and Marrakech, and carefully planned alternatives (fish, vegetarian, self-catering riads) elsewhere on the route.

We design routes so you spend Shabbat in cities with active synagogues and walkable accommodation no travel days, services arranged in advance, hotel keys and logistics thought through.

Many of our travelers come to find a grandparent's village, a family grave, a name in a cemetery register. Tell us what you know we will research locally and take you there.

We host families, congregation trips and heritage groups of any size with private transport, expert guides and full coordination with local communities.

Our Tour Guide Abdou was nice, funny and adapted the plans to our wishes. It was very nice and we highly recommend AbdouPosted on Tripadvisor Tammie PVerified New Year's Chill Solo Trip I waited a little over a month to write this review for a reason. This personal trip was about regrouping and thinking for what's ahead for 2025. I chose The Edgewater because I took my kids and grandkid there the weekend prior to Christmas for festivities in Seattle, and I saw an awesome TikTok about the hotel. That marketing strategy definitely reeled me into the property. In that first stay, we had the opportunity to be in a water suite on one day and city suite the second day, which wasn't originally planned but was an amazing opportunity for my family and me. On this second trip, it was all about me. I scheduled a nice hotel room with city views, which did not disappoint. The room was elegant and the bathroom was beautiful with it's mountainous stone decor. The shower gave the right pressure of hot water, which is a plus if you want to relax in a steam like environment. The part of this review takes a negative into a positive turn. After placing my bags into my room, I headed to the bar for a drink. Sat at the bar and asked the young bartender for a chocolate martini, something different on the last day of the year. He just arrived on shift, and said he would be happy to oblige. However, someone above him came to him to say that the bar was closed and they were closed until the New Year's gathering in the bar / restaurant. There was no sign that the bar was closed due to patrons sitting in the lounge area of the bar and restaurant. When the person who stopped the bartender at the beginnings of making the drink decided to not accommadate, I went to the front desk to state to maybe it would be best to add signage for all guests to know that the bar was closed and to ensure that front staff and all staff were aware prior to shift of the bar being closed for guests staying at the hotel. After that time, I never returned to the bar for the duration of my stay, and ordered room service the entirety of that time. I went there for alone time, I got it. I explained all of this to say, business is business but in customer service and hospitality, all guests should be accommodated on simple requests, such as making a drink on the last day of the year. The highs were the rest of the staff that made my stay very welcoming - LaRelle, Jesse, Lydia, Dave, Thomas, Selena, and Gabe. Those that work in wait staff, valet, and the resturant staff that brought my food order to my room both New Year's night and New Year's morning; both were wonderful people and very friendly. The Edgewater is a beautiful, serene, and elegant property located perfectly on the Elliott Bay. The views are gorgeous, and my favorite views are on the water. I gave a five star for both visits within one week of each other. Would I come back again? I would because staff can either make or break a trip, and the staff there (outside of the one) made the trip for me.Posted on Tripadvisor Jan KVerified Tour through Marrakesh with dinner Had an awesome time in Marrakesh! We travel through atlas mountains, rose valley, atlas studio, dades valley. We trekked into the Sahara via camel ride, stayed in a luxury tent, which has private shower and toilet. We enjoyed homemade Berber pizza! Which was the best food we enjoyed in Morocco. The family was so welcoming and the pizza was simple and savoy! We stayed in one tent and two hotels, dinners and breakfast was included. Our guide Abdul was awesome. If you plan to go. Then book it. It was a safe trip, people were wonderful, food was good, I loved the pizza and the tagines! Pictures and memories are once in a life time. Since it was a luxury tour, we were able to adjust what we wanted to see.

Yes — Morocco is widely regarded as one of the most welcoming destinations in the region for Jewish visitors. Jewish heritage is officially recognized as part of the national identity in Morocco's constitution, synagogues and cemeteries are actively restored, and thousands of Jewish travelers and pilgrims visit every year, particularly for the hiloula pilgrimages.
Yes. While much smaller than its mid-20th-century peak, a living community remains concentrated mainly in Casablanca, with active synagogues, community institutions and kosher facilities, and smaller presences in Marrakech and other cities. Where possible, our tours include respectful encounters with the community.
Absolutely. We arrange kosher dining in Casablanca and Marrakech, plan suitable alternatives on the road, and design itineraries so Shabbat is spent in one city with walkable accommodation and synagogue services coordinated in advance. Tell us your level of observance and we plan around it.
This is one of the most rewarding things we do. Share whatever you know a city, a family name, an old photograph and we research locally with community contacts and cemetery caretakers before your arrival, then take you there personally.
Yes, 100%. Your vehicle, driver, guides and itinerary are exclusively yours whether you are a couple, a multi-generation family or a congregation group. Every day adapts to your pace and interests.
