Born on These Trails

Why Morocco Is One of the World's Great Trekking Destinations

Few countries pack this much walking into one border: the High Atlas with Mount Toubkal   at 4,167 m the highest peak in North Africa , the green staircase valleys of Aït Bougmez, the wild Mgoun massif, the almond-blossom Anti-Atlas, and the Sahara itself, where trekking means soft dunes, nomad wells and absolute silence.

What makes trekking in Morocco truly special, though, is that the mountains are inhabited. You don't camp beside wilderness; you walk through living Berber villages, sleep in family-run gîtes, and share meals cooked by people whose grandparents cut these very trails. Our guides  licensed, experienced and born here   don't just navigate the route. They belong to it.

Every trek we run is private and tailor-made: your fitness, your dates, your dream summit. Mules carry the loads. Cooks work miracles at 3,000 metres. You just walk.

Where Trekking in Morocco Can Take You

Mix and match many of our best itineraries combine two or three of these into one journey.

Mount Toubkal (4,167 m)

North Africa's highest summit a tough but non-technical trek in summer, a crampon adventure in winter.

The Mgoun Massif

Wilder and quieter than Toubkal: high pastures, dramatic gorges and a 4,071 m summit for connoisseurs.

Aït Bougmez — the Happy Valley

Gentle village-to-village walking through one of the most beautiful and welcoming valleys in the Atlas.

Imlil & Azzaden Valleys

The classic Toubkal foothills: waterfalls, walnut groves and gîtes perfect for first treks and families.

Erg Chigaga Desert Trek

Multi-day walking across the great wild dune field, with camels as porters and bivouacs under the stars.

The Anti-Atlas & Sirwa

Almond blossoms in February, saffron villages in autumn, and Jebel Sirwa — the volcano between Atlas and Sahara.

Day Hikes From Marrakech

Short on time? Imlil, the Ourika valley waterfalls or the Agafay desert proper trails, back by dinner.

Todra & Dades Gorges

Canyon-floor walks and rim trails between 300-metre walls easily woven into any desert tour.

Trekking in Morocco - Your Questions

In summer conditions, Toubkal is a tough hike rather than a technical climb: no ropes or scrambling skills needed, but you should be comfortable walking 6–8 hours on steep, rocky ground, and the altitude above 3,000 m makes everything harder. With reasonable fitness and our sensible 3-day pacing, most determined hikers summit. In winter (roughly November–April) it becomes a genuine alpine ascent requiring crampons, an ice axe and experience.
